Meet Our School Dogs – Norman & Cooper

We are delighted to introduce our wonderful school dogs, Norman and Cooper, who are much-loved members of our school community. They play a special role in supporting the wellbeing of our children and helping to create a calm, caring and positive learning environment.

Norman and Cooper are friendly, gentle and well-behaved dogs who spend time in school under the supervision of trained staff. They enjoy meeting children, listening to stories, joining in with learning activities and bringing smiles to everyone they meet.

Why Do We Have School Dogs?

Research has shown that school dogs can have many positive benefits for children, including:

• Promoting emotional wellbeing by helping children feel calm, safe and relaxed.
• Building confidence as children develop positive relationships and take on new responsibilities.
• Encouraging reading by providing a patient, non-judgemental audience for children to read aloud to.
• Reducing anxiety and stress, particularly during busy or challenging times.
• Supporting social skills by encouraging conversation, teamwork and positive interactions.
• Developing empathy and kindness through learning how to care for and respect animals.
• Motivating learning, as many children are inspired and excited when Norman and Cooper are involved in school activities.
• Creating a welcoming atmosphere where children look forward to coming to school each day.

The welfare of both our children and our dogs is always our highest priority. Norman and Cooper are carefully supervised at all times, and children are taught how to interact with them safely and respectfully. Participation in activities involving the dogs is always carefully considered to ensure every child feels comfortable.

Norman and Cooper have become valued members of our school family, bringing joy, comfort and companionship to our pupils and staff. We are proud to have them as part of our school community and look forward to the many happy moments they will continue to share with us.
