Welcome back to another fun filled and exciting term in Sycamore Class.

The assessments Sycamore completed before the holidays have ensured that we will be working hard on their areas which need developing.

This term, Mr Holder will be working with us on a Monday morning. This will means our Music session moves to Wednesday.

Our Christian Value of the term is kindness and I am sure that I will be able to see lots of examples of this in both the actions of Sycamore Class towards each other and others around the school.

Please do not hesitate to pop in after school or call the office to make an appointment to discuss progress or any concerns that you may have.

Arithmetic is our main focus as we continue to work on our accuracy when completing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division work.

Our weekly focus will be on the following topics: decimals, percentages (and the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages) and measurement including conversion between units of measurements.

This term we will be focussing on improving the quality of our written work. We will be using the texts Viking Boy and Beowulf.  Along with fiction writing, we will also be writing newspaper reports.  We will be focussing on the technical aspects of writing, to ensure our writing has the correct features.  The GPS websites (Sycamore Tab on the school website) will support this home learning too.

In Reading skills, we will be ensuring that we can locate information quickly in a text and also building our stamina to read longer pieces of work. Your support in helping to do this at home would be greatly appreciated.

We will also continue to work on the 100 Year 5 and 6 word spellings.

This term our focus is Sikhism and we will investigate the big question: How do Sikhs live out what they believe?

Mrs Atkinson will be working with a teacher from Wrotham Secondary this term through the project of Chemical Reactions.

Our PE days continue to be Wednesday and Thursday.  PE kits should be in everyday in case of sudden timetable changes.

Creative Curriculum

There will be a History focus for our  Vikings topic as we start by looking at the terms ‘settle’ and  ‘invade’. We will be placing the Vikings on a time line and finding out about the types of homes the Vikings built. With a Geography focus we will find out where the Vikings came from.

In Art and DT, we will be  designing, making and evaluating a Viking Long Boat.

The current homework grid covers Term 3 and 4.  The final date for handing homework in will be Tuesday March 21st. Please ensure that your child does not leave their homework until the last minute, homework books are expected in regularly. We are expecting work of a high quality.

It is expected that every child achieves their 100 points.

Maths homework will continue to be set on Mathletics. Please ensure that your child is accessing Mathletics weekly as regular tasks are being set.

Spellings will continue to be given on Monday and tested on Friday.

Useful Websites

I have checked and added websites under the Sycamore Tab of the school website. There are links to sites which will be helpful for Grammar, Writing, Reading and Maths. These will be useful to support your childs revision in preparation for the SATS assessments.

And finally…

Please ensure your child has a full water bottle in school everyday and comes in wearing correct uniform on time for school. If you do have any questions or worries, please feel free to pop in at the end of the day or make an appointment via the office.

Please remember: only one small pencil case permitted.

Thank you for your support.
