to another fun filled and exciting term in Hazel Class and our new topic: THE VIKINGS!
This term there are a few timetable changes including Swimming on a Friday and our Music slot which changes to a Monday to accommodate Mr Holder who will be working with some of the children this term. We are sorry to say goodbye to Mrs Montgomery and the class will be taught by Mrs Atkinson all day on a Wednesday with Mrs Rye still continuing to teach all day on a Friday. Mrs Baylis will be in class for the rest of the week.
We have a trip planned for this term to Wide Horizons on Thursday 2nd February – more details to follow.
Our Christian Value of the term is kindness and I am sure that we will be able to see lots of examples of this in both the actions of Hazel Class towards each other and others around the school.
NUMBER is our main focus all term. We will be working on fractions almost exclusively for the majority of this term. Please log in to Mathletics with your child as often as possible as this supports all the learning we do in class.
This term we will be focussing on improving the quality of our written work. We will be using the text ‘How to Train your Dragon’ and other works by Cressida Cowell.
Along with fiction writing, we will also be writing instructions and reports.
We will be focussing on the technical aspects of writing, to ensure our writing has the correct features.
In Reading skills, we will be ensuring that we can locate information quickly in a text and also building our stamina to read longer pieces of work. Your support in helping to do this at home would be greatly appreciated.
We will also continue to work on the 50 Year 5 word spellings.
We return to Christianity this term to look at what people thought of Jesus – Friends, enemies, believers, non-believers
Mrs Atkinson, our specialist Science teacher, continues to deliver the Science curriculum, focus on Properties and changes of materials.
Our PE day continues to be Tuesday (Gymnastics) with Swimming starting on a Friday 6th Jan.
PE kits should be in everyday in case of sudden timetable changes. Please ensure your child has the correct kit including track legs for the colder term.
There will be a History focus for our Vikings topic as we start by looking at the terms ‘settle’ and ‘invade’. We will be placing the Vikings on a time line and finding out about the types of homes the Vikings built. With a Geography focus we will find out where the Vikings came from.
In Art and DT, we will be designing, making and evaluating a Viking Long Boat.
Music, still taught by Mr Jaggard, will now be on a Monday morning.
French will be taught every Tuesday by Madame West.
The current homework grid covers Term 3 and 4. The final date for handing homework in will be Tuesday March 21st. Please ensure that your child does not leave their homework until the last minute, homework books are expected in regularly. We are expecting work of a high quality. It is expected that every child achieves their 100 points.
Spellings will continue to be given on Monday and tested on Friday. Timetables will be tested on a Thursday. Your child should be reading everyday.
Please remember: only one small pencil case is permitted, it must fit in your child’s tray or it will be sent back home.
Please do not hesitate to pop in after school or call the office to make an appointment to discuss progress or any concerns that you may have.
Thank you for your support!
